  1. Tell us a little about the founding and development of your organization?
    Adoption Choice, Inc. was started in 1986 for the purposes of providing birth parent services to women in crisis pregnancy. An additional service of the agency was to provide counseling to prospective adoptive parents and aid them in choosing the correct adoption plan. Adoption Choice, Inc. now has offices located throughout Wisconsin and assists both birthparents and adoptive parents in all types of adoptions including: domestic, international, interstate, independent, step-parent, relative, out-of-state foster care and embryo adoption.
  2. How are your adoption home study and your organization unique?
    Adoption Choice, Inc. is a non-profit agency that does not discriminate. We welcome prospective adoptive parents of all religious, racial, ethnic backgrounds, family compositions and sexual orientations. While we are large enough to provide a complete range of adoption services, we personalize services to meet adoptive parents' unique needs.
  3. Why are you passionate about adoption and the home study process?
    Adoption Choice, Inc. is a state licensed, progressive, private adoption agency that provides adoption services throughout Wisconsin. Our dedicated staff is ready to help prospective adoptive parents to find the answers they need as they navigate their way through the process that can be both challenging and rewarding. We understand that many families have attempted other ways to create a family prior to utilizing our agency and we want to provide a caring, supportive experience. Sometimes, the adoption process can be long, emotional and difficult. Our staff understands this and is there to assist.
  4. How long is an adoption home study valid?
    A domestic home study is valid for one year in the state of Wisconsin. International home studies can be valid for up to 18 months.
  5. Approximately how much time is necessary to complete an adoption home study by your organization?
    The adoption home study process can be completed in 4-12 weeks depending on the availability of the adoptive parents. There is no waiting period. We begin as soon as the adoptive family begins.
  6. Can adoptive parents use a home study completed by your organization to adopt a child born in another state?
    Yes, Adoption Choice, Inc. uses S.A.F.E. home studies, which are accepted in many states. Some adjustments may need to be made depending on the other state. Adoption Choice, Inc. is able to make these changes when needed.
  7. If you complete my home study, do you also have to complete my post-placement visits?
    No, these are separate services. Most families choose to conduct post placement visits with Adoption Choice, however.
  8. How many post-placement visits does your organization require?
    The State of Wisconsin typically requires monthly visits for at least six months for domestic cases. This may be shorter if finalized in another state. The number varies for international adoptions.
  9. What is some advice you can give to potential adoptive families about the home study process? What should they be prepared for?
    Adoptive families should be prepared for openness. Very few adoptions are closed nowadays. They should be patient while they are waiting to be matched. They should also be prepared for the risks and unknowns in adoptions. Our adoption counselors will walk with you and prepare you every step of the way.
  10. What do your home study social workers look for in a home and a family when they visit potential adoptive families' homes?
    Adoption Choice, Inc. looks for homes that meet state licensing requirements and look for families who are educated in adoption issues and willing to educate themselves, prepared for the adoption process, and realistic about process. They look for emotionally and financially stable families.
  11. Are you Hague accredited, and if not, does your international home study comply with Hague International Standards?
    Adoption Choice, Inc. is not Hague accredited; however our international home studies comply with Hague International Standards.
  12. Do you have experience in completing the home study and working with international placement companies?
    Yes, we have worked with many international placement companies. We provide international home studies and post-placement services. Adoptive families who require additional support services are connected with other resources in the community.
  13. Are there other services and benefits you would like to share about your company?
    We provide services for international, domestic, independent, out-of-state, LGBT, relative, embryo, step-parent adoptions and out of state-foster care.
