Faith International Adoptions FAQ

  1. Tell us a little about the founding and development of your organization?
Founded in 1994 by John J. Meske, our agency was formed by a partnership of bilingual native individuals and American adoptive parents who recognize the need for international adoption and understand the complexity of the process. The legalities, language problems, and cultural differences can make adoption almost impossible without the assistance of an agency that is knowledgeable, trustworthy and caring. John, an adoptive parent himself, remains as our Executive Director today.
  2. How are your adoption home study and your organization unique?
Because we know adoption is both very exciting and stressful, we complete the initial home visit as soon as possible. Throughout the entire process, we strive to provide prompt, professional, and thorough services at a reasonable price.
  3. Why are you passionate about adoption and the home study process?
Our social workers each have a special tie to adoption in one way or another. We are passionate about building forever families, and enjoy advocating on behalf of waiting children and the families wishing to adopt them. We strive to make the home study and adoption process special and as easy as possible. After all, making the decision to adopt is very personal, and one of the greatest experiences you will ever encounter.
  4. How long is an adoption home study valid?
One year for domestic home studies; 15 months for international home studies.
  5. Approximately how much time is necessary to complete an adoption home study by your organization?
It is entirely dependent upon the applicants! Once all of their home study documents are complete, the home study draft is typically completed within 1 – 2 weeks.
  6. Can adoptive parents use a home study completed by your organization to adopt a child born in another state?
Domestic home studies completed by our organization are valid in all 50 states.
  7. If you complete my home study, do you also have to complete my post-placement visits?
We are happy to. Many placing agencies will require a signed post-placement commitment prior to your family’s acceptance of a placement.
  8. How many post-placement visits does your organization require?
We defer to the state or country in which a child is placed. Some states require one post-placement, while others require six. Each international placement typically requires a minimum of three.
  9. What is some advice you can give to potential adoptive families about the home study process? What should they be prepared for?
Relax! Many families are fearful of the experience, and feel that they must be overly prepared. Keep in mind that our social workers are real-life individuals, who likely lead a lifestyle similar to yours. It is not necessary to have every speck of dust cleaned, or no clutter at all in your home. That would not be realistic! Deciding to adopt a child is a wonderful, exciting moment in an individual or couple’s life. While it may feel like the paperwork, background checks, and the homestudy process drag on, families should be rest assured that this process is an essential part of the adoption journey - a journey that will lead them to the magical moment when they are forever parents.
  10. What do your home study social workers look for in a home and a family when they visit potential adoptive families' homes?
The home study process has three purposes: to educate and prepare the adoptive family for adoption, to gather information about the prospective parents, and to evaluate the fitness of the adoptive family.
  11. Are you Hague accredited, and if not, does your international home study comply with Hague International Standards?
Faith International Adoptions is Hague accredited, and we abide by all Hague International Standards.
  12. Do you have experience in completing the home study and working with international placement companies?
Currently, we do not have social workers located abroad. We are happy to refer to additional organizations that we are familiar with, if they are in need of this service.
  13. Are there other services and benefits you would like to share about your company?
