Heartsent Adoptions, Inc FAQ

  1. Tell us a little about the founding and development of your organization?
Heartsent Adoptions was founded in 1995 by a couple who had previously adopted. Over the past 28 years we have helped over 4,000 children find their forever families. During this time we have expanded our agency programs and currently have direct programs with Taiwan, Thailand and Colombia. We also assist with Domestic Adoptions for those families seeking this path for their adoption journey.
  2. How are your adoption home study and your organization unique?
We work closely with our families to ensure that they understand the process openly and honestly from the beginning. As we work alongside the family, we want to ensure they feel supported and cared for. In addition, we are available to our families not only through the home study process but for life. We always welcome calls from families who have previously adopted and are needing some additional support.
  3. Why are you passionate about adoption and the home study process?
We are passionate about the adoption process as we want to see as many children as possible be united with their forever families. During our time, we have been blessed to witness so many children join their forever families from the US and all over the world. Watching these families develop and the children heal from any past trauma is the most rewarding part of our work.
  4. How long is an adoption home study valid?
California home studies are valid for two years. Depending on the state you might adopt from updates may be required at one year if the other state requires this.
  5. Approximately how much time is necessary to complete an adoption home study by your organization?
The time for completion of the home study is typically 3-4 months, depending on the turnaround time for the adoptive family to submit documents.
  6. Can adoptive parents use a home study completed by your organization to adopt a child born in another state?
Yes they can. We will make every effort to ensure it covers all areas that may be required by another state.
  7. If you complete my home study, do you also have to complete my post-placement visits?
Although not required, it is typically easier for the organization who completes your home study to also complete your post placement visits. This provides continuity of services with a social worker who is already familiar with your family.
  8. How many post-placement visits does your organization require?
The State of California requires a minimum of 4 visits in 6 months if you will be finalizing in California. If you are matched with a child from another state and will be finalizing in that State our Agency will complete the required number of post placement per that State’s laws.
  9. What is some advice you can give to potential adoptive families about the home study process? What should they be prepared for?
Be patient and prepared to complete a lot of paperwork. Remember your agency and your social worker are here to support you through the process and complete a timely and thorough home study to help your adoption journey be successful.
  10. What do your home study social workers look for in a home and a family when they visit potential adoptive families' homes?
Visits have a required building and grounds check. Primarily we are looking for any potential health and safety issues for a child. Again, we are here to support you so if there are any correction, which are typically minor, we will work with you to get these resolved quickly.
  11. Are you Hague accredited, and if not, does your international home study comply with Hague International Standards?
We are accredited for Hague adoption through IAAME (Intercountry Adoption Accreditation and Maintenance Entity). Our accreditation is valid through March 26, 2026.
  12. Do you have experience in completing the home study and working with international placement companies?
We do have extensive experience in this area. Currently, we have primary provider programs in Taiwan, Thailand and Colombia. We support families through the home study, training, travel, placement and beyond.
  13. Are there other services and benefits you would like to share about your company?
We pride ourselves on being available to our families. Whether you need assistance from our program coordinators, your social worker, our Intercountry Adoption Director or our Executive Director we are here for you. We work as a team to support our families and connect them with whichever staff person can best meet their needs.
